Study of the environmental and radiological aspects of municipal solid waste for energy generation
سنة النشر: 2025
The study proposed an innovative approach for mitigating the environmental health impacts which may be occurred to the solid wastes worker, during the collection of the accumulated municipal solid waste, by generating green energy source at one of the conventional steam power plant units, using a down draft fixed bed biomass gasification type. The study results support the readiness of wood organic solid wastes in energy generation. As the predicated highest value of biomass energy kw, generated from the proposed down draft fixed gasifier unit was observed in the studied high density’s populated site with 5800 kw, which is related to its highest amounts of the feeding source calorific value (wood braches) which was 8700 kg/h, where the highest value of predicated gas output resulting from the using of the proposed downdraft fixed bed gasifier unit was also observed at the high density’s populated site with17300 m3/h, these results support the using of the wood branches solid as a feeding source of the proposed downdraft fixed bed gasifier unit, at the suggested conventional steam power plants, this will enhance the implementation of this proposed down draft fixed bed gasification process. The study results showed that the radioactive dose rate values of the segregated solid wastes samples are arranged as follows: plastic waste > wood (plant) solid waste > paper waste > food waste. Fortunately, all the study measured dose rates are below the acceptable dose limit being regulated by ICRP which is 1 ml Sievert/year for non-occupational workers.
